Seasonal Foods

Now that spring is here, we have the privilege to indulge in a variety of foods that are now in season. There are so many benefits of eating at this time of year there is more to choose from, better quality and taste, more and in some cases cheaper. It’s the perfect time to hit up a local farmer’s market and pick up locally grown produce.

Its no secret that fruits and veggies are the single most important part of our wellbeing. Not only are the nourishing but they also heal. More people are now seeking out naturopaths and other natural health experts to get a better understand and control of their own health through more natural ways, regardless if they have ailments or not. The best way to get your nutrients is through your food source.

I have struggled with 2 major stomach issues over the past 8 years, as well as weight issues. About 4 years ago I had a blood analysis done and it has changed and improved my health tremendously. With the blood analysis I was tested for my blood type and was educated on types of foods would benefit me and what can be harmful. I found out that dairy and wheat were my two biggest enemies. Some fruits and veggie also do jive with me however, dairy and wheat were the most impacting. Since then I have limited my intake of the two and felt a million times better. I will admit, that I fall of the wagon now and then because lets’ face it cheese is just too good not to eat on occasion. Having experienced this I had to get creative and explore fresher foods, which in the end I should have done earlier anyway. Now with great outlets of social media people have shared similar stories and have been able to help others in their struggles with finding food that feel better to their bodies.

With spring here and having more fresh produce to choose from, it is a fun and creative time to be in the kitchen and our bodies get all the wonderful benefits of replenishing our nutrients. When buying foods in season it is actually cheaper, because it is coming from local farms and not coming from international markets. The nutrient content is also hirer this time of year for the same reason. When things are shipped in from other countries, the foods are sometimes frozen and have lost nutrients just due to the time it takes to be shipped. Spring and summer is also a very social time of year. Bringing fresh fruit and veggie platters or making up creative salads to bring to parties are now common party favorites.
