One of the hardest “easy poses” to do is tree pose or vrksasana. It’s a beautiful pose that makes everyone feel like a true yogi, but it’s a challenge to balance on that one leg! The pose of the week is a modified version of the full pose, but it’s a great place to start!

Benefits:

Improves balance and strengthens the legs.

How to:

  1. Start in mountain pose tadasana, with your feet grounded into your mat.
  2. Shift your weight onto your right foot.
  3. Bend your left knee and turn it out to point towards your left side.
  4. Keep your left toes on the floor with your heel lifted and pressing towards your right ankle. For more, take that left foot and place it on your left calf, below the knee.
  5. Keep your belly engaged, your pelvis tucked under, and your foot firmly rooted as you hold the pose.
  6. Arms can be out to your sides, in prayer at your chest, or above your head depending on your balance.

Make it harder:

Bring that leg up higher when you feel comfortable in the modified version. Just make sure to avoid pressing your foot into your standing knee. The higher up you extend your arms, the more challenging this will be on your balance, so try changing your arm position if you want a little more of a challenge!
