We take approximately 23,040 breaths per day but we should pay more attention to how we breathe. The power of our breath goes far beyond what many would think. Yes, without breathing we would not live. Our bodies don’t function without it, so if we improve the quality and technique of our breath, other body functions would improve. Some improvement of to our bodies include…

Improve brain and nervous system.

You need fresh oxygen to feed your brain, which would then benefit the whole body and nervous system. It also helps with cell rejuvenation. The nervous system responsible for your digestive system is called the parasympathetic nervous system. This takes your body into calmer state and when your body is relaxed your digestive system work more efficiently.

Releases toxins.

70% of your bodies toxins are release through your breath. If you are not breathing properly the other detoxifying parts of your body have to work double time. Deep breathing will also reduce the bodies acidity making it more alkaline. The less acidic your body the lower the risk of many other health problems. Improvement in blood quality also take place when carbon-dioxide is removed through deep breathing. The oxygen in the body is increased and therefore creating a purer blood.

Relaxing.

Deep breathing helps the body to relax. When your body gets adequate oxygen your muscles relax and your mind calms down. It can also ease or relieve pain. When we are relaxed are generally in a better mood. This could help ease tension in relationships because you have the power to slow down and not react. You can process things clearly and deal with things with a level head.

Teaching young kids to use their breath is so beneficial. You can start them as young as 3, getting them to use deep inhales and exhales can help calm them down. Of course staying with this technique as the get older gives them better coping skills, can help them with their studies by releasing nerves or stress. More schools are introducing yoga into their classes room for this very reason. Not only are they getting more physical activity but they are learning to control their thoughts by calming themselves down through breathing.

Deep breathing improves the quality of our workout. Learning to breathe through movement can be difficult, a lot of people tend to hold their breath while working out. Yoga teaches you to use your breath to assist in your poses. Learning these techniques in your yoga classes can helping you in other activities as well. So besides needing oxygen to live, take deeper breaths to improve the quality of your overall health. Who knew it was easy as that!
