We have all heard several time how breakfast is the most important meal of the day and if you are my age you probably even remember the old commercials that told you a particular cereal was the breakfast of champions? Well, I’d like to talk about some great breakfast idea so you have your very own Breakfast of Champions.

I’m sure you’ve heard many times that eating breakfast is critical for weight loss. Well eating breakfast is also important for energy and overall good health. But will eating just cereal do the job?

Many people get so worked up trying to figure out a healthy breakfast combination that will give them the energy and nutrients they need, that they end up just eating what they think is a good cereal.

Well have no fear! To help you keep it simple, and to keep your sanity here are a few ideas to create your very onw Champions of Breakfast.

The best Breakfast ingedients are:

Whole grains
Lean protein
Low fat dairy
Healthy fat
Fresh or frozen fruit

Including these into your meal planning will help you shop and prepare easier. Plus, if you work out in the morning, these Champions will make sure you don’t run out of steam before lunch.

Here is a great recipe idea that is quick, easy, very tasty and quite satisfying.

Apple-Pecan Protein Oatmeal

Ingredients:

½ cup low fat yogurt

½ tsp cinnamon

¼ cup old-fashioned oats or steel cut oats

1 small apple, peeled, cored, chopped

½ scoop protein powder (flavor is your choice)

1 tbsp chopped pecans or almonds

Directions: The night before mix your yogurt, cinnamon and oats together and put it in the fridge – the yogurt will soften the oats! In the morning add the rest of the ingredients, stir and enjoy!

If you prefer hot cereal, cook the oats according to the directions. Once it’s cooked add yogurt (optional since the oats have already been prepared), cinnamon, apple, protein powder and pecans or almonds.
