Congratulation to Connie!! You are a true inspiration.
Connie is someone who always gives everything she has to everyone that means something to her. She just wasn’t used to giving that energy to herself. It was a long battle, but she came out more than a survivor.
During and after Connie’s own personal struggle with that ever too common “c” word, Connie never hesitated to give her encouragement and support to others, throughout their battle.
Connie felt so strongly about giving back and supporting the fight that she trained, fund raised and participated in the Walk to End Breast Cancer in 2009 and 2010.
In 2010 Connie also decided to introduce yoga into her life. All it took to get her hooked was the welcoming atmosphere, serenity, variety of classes and the amazing instructors at Oxygen Yoga and Fitness Maple Ridge. Yoga quickly became a large part of her exercise regime. Connie regularly attended and still continues to attend at least 5-6 classes per week. Only taking time off during several reconstructive surgeries.
Fast forward to 2015, Connie had completed 13 – 1/2 marathons (plus worthy mention of a sub 2 hour marathon in 2015), semi-retirement, and the sad loss of her mother last year. Now was the time to fulfill another lifetime goal. Connie decided to train for her first full marathon in the country of her parents’ origin, The Netherlands. Rotterdam to be precise.
Connie’s post on Facebook on April 11, 2016 read as follows: “22 weeks of training, 107 hours of running, 923 km and 93 yoga classes. I am ready. One more sleep!”
Next, here’s an excerpt from Connie’s post on Facebook on April 12, 2016: “Thank you to everyone who supported me during this marathon. It was so amazing! The weather was beautiful 13 degrees, the atmosphere amazing. I can honestly say I enjoyed every step…My time 4:19:58 – my goal was in 4:20”.
Connie you’re not only a survivor, you’re an amazing, kind and generous woman and an inspiration to us all. Congratulations on achieving your amazing goal.
