This year organizations and charities supporting the No Shave November are now calling attention to and supporting not only prostate cancer but mental health as well. It’s time to start talking about this, let’s create dialog on mental health and suicide in men. Yoga has been said to alleviate stress and depression in various poses and breathwork. Just by making time to move the body and slow down the mind one can find calm.
It is during this moment, we will do what we can to support all the men in our lives. Offering to take them to a deep stretch, listening when they need it or donating to prostate cancer we will do what we can. We’ve set up mustache sticks at each studio to keep things fun while bringing awareness to a heavy topic and further offering our support by accepting donations at the studio. Share those great mustache pics and, be sure to hashtag #Movember #menshealth #suicideprevention #mentalheath #beatprostatecancer to further create conversations and space for those who need it.
Meet Kamloops Owner Dina
Dina is our new franchise owner at Oxygen Yoga and Fitness in Kamloops. Dina is a kind heart who works to give back to the community in any way she can. She is writes a blog every Thursday talking about her journey in becoming a studio ower, how Oxygen helped her heal, her running community, and how to take care of you.
This Thursday she writes about Movember and how it is all about love. Dina talks of creating more awareness through dialog and love.
“Our brothers, sons, husbands, uncles, dads, nephews and friends need us to just listen to them too! We know the ‘locker room’ mentality exists, that men are very hard on each other, much like women can be, but it’s very different. We tend to talk more openly about our experiences and traumas, without backlash from society, men are not truly granted a safe place to land on a regular basis to help them manage stress.” – Dina McLeod.
This month at Oxygen Yoga Kamloops Aberdeen a MOVEmber initiative will be held in support of men’s wellness. Encouraging the community to move with them for 30 days. They’re accepting donations in studio or online.
“Our 30 day initiative starts November 1. Or perhaps donating to our O2 team is more to your liking… either way, every penny helps. WE will move every day of the month with MOVE-mber in our studio. Body, mind and soul workouts to bring awareness and create that much needed conversation. We are losing a man every minute to suicide. Open your hearts, your minds and your muscles. WE ARE ONE! Community matters! LOVE is always the answer.
