WE’RE SPENDING ONE NIGHT OUTSIDE IN SUPPORT OF VULNERABLE YOUTH
- On any given night there are between 500 and 1000 young people living on the streets in the Lower Mainland.
- Many youths are re-victimized on the streets, having fled one unsafe situation only to find another.
- Families in our Province are raising children with special needs and limited support.
- Children in our communities are going to school hungry, without proper self-care resources.
The Joseph Richard Group partners with local charities to help raise funds for vulnerable youth in our cities and Province. The team sleeps outside for one night placing them in a vulnerable situation to raise awareness for those in need. The charitable organizations involved are: Youth Unlimited, Covenant House, Variety – The Children’s Charity, and Dream City Centre.

Funds raised for YOUTH UNLIMITED go to providing love, care and tangible help to vulnerable youth experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness across Greater Vancouver. Our youth have high risk factors for homelessness, addiction, gang recruitment, sexual exploitation and extreme poverty, but early intervention can massively decrease those risks and give youth a bright and hopeful future. Consistent mentorship is one of YU’s key transformational strategies. Research shows that providing a stable, caring and consistent adult in a youth’s life for 18 months will drop his or her risk factors by 70%. Prevention is a key objective of YU’s extensive programing.
Funds raised for COVENANT HOUSE go to providing love and hope to Vancouver’s homeless and at-risk street youth. They help young people aged 16 to 24 who have fled physical, emotional and sexual abuse; those who have been forced from their homes; and those who have aged out of foster care. Each year Covenant House Vancouver provides shelter, food, clothing and counselling to 1,400 young people through its Daily Drop-In, Street Outreach, and Residential Programs.
Funds raised for VARIETY – THE CHILDREN’S CHARITY go to providing direct help to children in BC with special needs where health care ends, supporting children to fulfill their unique potential. Funding helps cover costs for medical care and services, mobility equipment, specialized therapies and development program not covered by private or public health plans. Often a child’s condition is complex, which means care and support is needed for various aspects of their development throughout their childhood. It is a journey that children and their families face with perseverance, and with the support of donors, Variety is by their side.
Funds raised for CITY DREAM CENTRE go to supporting the underprivileged and vulnerable who live in Greater Vancouver and making those that feel invisible feel visible, bringing value and dignity in a practical way. Programs include Adopt a School which entails Food Hamper distribution, nutritional support, girls and boys club programs, back to school supplies and a mobile dental care unit. Educational programs called “Power to Parent” helps adults learn and re-build the skills to improve parenting and the 6-week course is currently taught in local prisons and recovery homes and recognized by the BC Supreme Court in cases of child visitation and custody.
