Welcome to the Oxygen Yoga Blog!

This is my first post and I thought it would probably be best to start off by introducing myself.  So my name is Natasha Ingram and I’m a member at the Mission location.  I have taught yoga for several years locally, and I have a huge passion for natural health, I definitely would consider myself as a modern day hippy. I also am a mother to 2 boys and have most recently returned back to school full time to study New Media.

In this blog I’m going to cover a variety of topics mostly related to health and fitness, but please please let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to cover or if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to leave comments, this blog is for you and we want to hear your opinions!

Home Made Protein Cookies/Bars

I thought I’d share this recipe for home made protein bars with you guys first.  They’re really great because you can make them on Sunday or Monday and they’ll last all week, also they taste delicious, my friends are always asking me for the recipe (probably because I adapted them from a cookie recipe, lol)

Just a quick warning though….these are meant to be a meal replacement, not addition! They are moderately high in calories but they’re packed with nutrients so you will stay full for a long time.

Ingredients

2 cups oats

¾ cup coconut oil

1 cup natural peanut butter

¼ cup nuts, walnut, brazil or pecans use what you have

¼ natural sugar- I generally use honey its got lots of antioxidants and it’s a great binder, but I’ve also used coconut sugar or agave. NO white sugar J

1 egg

1 cup protein powder, I like chocolate vega but its personal preference

tsp baking powder

½ cup choco chips, I know this isn’t healthy per say, but its not very much and keeps it fun use organic if it makes you feel better.

Optionals

You can kind of throw in whatever extra healthy items you’ve got lying around, I often put in extra shredded coconut or chia seeds, but remember if your adding more dry, to adjust your wet by adding extra peanut butter or coconut oil. Also I always taste the dough before I form my cookies, some people like it more or less sweet so you can adjust your sugar.

Directions

-Pretty simple, cream your coconut oil, sugar and egg. I use an electric mixer, its a lot easier but if you want to build some muscle do it by hand 😛

-Add your peanut butter and mix well

-Add your oats, protein powder, baking soda and mix well

-Lastly add your nuts, choco chips or whatever extras you might be using

Bake 350 degrees for 8 mins
