Find Your Perfect Pre-holiday Workout Motivation

We’re approaching that part of the year where time can fly by at an inexplicably faster rate than it has for the first ten months of the year. It can feel at this point in the year that the opportunity to accomplish anything has already slipped by. The rest of the year will be filled by trips home, time with family, or holiday parties. But here at Oxygen Yoga & Fitness, we believe there’s no time like the present to make the changes you want to make in your life. We know everyone’s holiday season looks different, just as we all have different priorities about how we spend our time. No matter what you’d like to accomplish in the last couple months of 2023, we hope we can help you further your journey.

Get a Jump Start on Your Resolutions

If you’re looking back on the year and feeling like you didn’t accomplish as much as you wish you had, it’s not too late. In a couple months, gyms and workout studios alike will be flooded with people committing to their new workout goals and new years resolutions. But January is not the only time of the year when you can set new goals. Setting realistic goals can help us stay motivated and committed to our workouts, as explained by sports psychologist Joseph Galasso in Forbes Health. Health magazine shares that when setting fitness goals, it’s useful to ensure they are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely. Why not pick out the classes that will best help you achieve your goals and commit to attending on a regular basis?

Reinvigorate Yourself After Daylight Savings Time

If you’re falling asleep at 4 p.m. now that it gets dark so early, it’s understandable if you’re struggling a bit more than usual to find the motivation to get into the gym. But if you can take that good step, we’ve got some good news for you. A lot of the workouts you can choose at Oxygen Yoga & Fitness can help to rejuvenate you. Exercise can help energize you in a myriad of ways, like boosting oxygen levels in your body and increasing hormone levels in your body. Meditation, which often plays a role in our yoga classes, can also help energize you. So while at first thought, you might think working out would leave you more tired, in actuality making the effort to get into your classes might make you feel better in the long run.

Head into Your New Year with a New Community

We often speak about the holidays as a time to spend with family and friends, but for those who don’t have a community where they feel at home this time of year can also feel especially isolating. If you’re feeling lonely this holiday season, you aren’t the only one. It’s also never too late to start building a new community around you. One of our favorite things about Oxygen Yoga & Fitness is the community members feel around them. It takes time to make good friends. A study by Professor Jeffrey Hall suggests it takes around fifty hours of time to move from being acquaintances to friends. But all deep friendships start somewhere, and one of the ways you can build friendships is from what Suzanne Degges-White refers to as activity friends, such as gym buddies. Start building your community by regularly coming to a class and getting to know your classmates around you.

Find Calm Amidst the Holiday Chaos

The holidays can be fun, but they can also be chaotic. You might have parties to be at after work or travel plans taking you out of town on the weekends. Amongst all this excitement, it’s understandable if your routine has to shift. But if you start to feel like all the holiday plans are getting the best of you, remember to take time for yourself this holiday season. Taking time to care for yourself can help reduce stress and anxiety. Having a daily routine has also been found to help us reduce stress and improve interpersonal relationships, so while in busy times it might be tempting to let the self-care you usually do, like workouts, go out the door, you may want to reconsider sticking to those routines. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time for yourself this holiday season.
