People often ask me if Yoga Teacher Training is right for them.  What will they gain? Why should they do it?

Attending a Yoga Teacher Training course (YTT as it’s called in the biz!) is so much more then you could ever imagine.  Much like Yoga, it is multi-faceted and has so much to offer.  Of course there are the obvious benefits; you will be certified to teach Yoga after the course, you will have a deeper understanding of the physical practice of Yoga and the philosophy behind it, and of course you will learn how to safely sequence and lead a class full of eager students!

However, there are a ton of added benefits that you don’t truly understand until you’ve experienced it.   I would argue these benefits are even more important.  The top 3 things you will gain by doing your Yoga Teacher Training are immeasurable and are truly a gift to yourself.

First off, you have the time and space to explore your own practice and yourself, in detail.  Have you ever really taken the time to get to know yourself, to know your body?  In the YTT, there is no rush.  You really take the time to explore you practice and yourself.  Learning about your own weaknesses and strengths allows you to deepen your practice and find balance, on and off the mat.  As you explore yourself and become more grounded you are able to help others in a more profound way.  Basically, by become a better you, you become a better teacher.

Secondly, if you want to truly know something, teach it.  Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini yoga said, “If you want to learn something, read about it, if you want to understand something, study it, and if you want to master something, teach it.”  Can you ever ‘master’ yoga?  I don’t think so, but that’s for another blog!  However, my point is, if you really want to deepen your knowledge theVisn yoga teacher training is the next step, whether you want to teach or not.

Third, it’s fun!  You get to spend hours-upon-hours with like-minded people experimenting with fun poses and exploring something you are passionate about.  What could be better than that!?
